ASK DR. SCHELLING DEAR DR. SCHELLING, Last weekend my dog was not acting like his usual energetic self, instead he was laying around and vomiting on occasion. He's always so playful, so I was very worried. Luckily there is an emergency vet clinic in town, and I was able to get him the care he needed. This emergency got me wondering about what could have happened if I wasn't able to get him into the clinic. Do you have any tips on first aid for dogs? -Wanting To Be Prepared |

Dear Prepared, It is great that you were able to get your dog the care he needed in an emergency. Although there is no substitution for a licensed veterinarian when it comes to a sick or injured pet, there are some basics that all dog owners should know when faced with an emergency situation. Dear Max, How come you aren’t entered in the Canine Superstar contest? –Your Furry-Pawed Competition … … … … Dear Competitor, You lucked out! I can’t enter the contest because my human, Dr. Schelling, is the founder. You’d think that would be an advantage, but instead it disqualifies me. Bummer! Because I am sure I would win. For those of you who don’t know about Canine Superstar, you should check it out! Every month they are giving a thousand bucks to the dog named that month’s Canine Superstar. Second prize is $100, and 3rd prize is $50. Plus, there are other add-on prizes. It’s free. There’s no obligation, and your information is safe and private. Plus, it’s super fun to check out all the other entries and vote on them. Mom is also trying to help out shelters by having them submit up to 10 dogs in the contest. This helps them adopt out the dogs as well as potentially raise money for their shelters. It is a great site—so check it out and enter. It’s easy and fun. Please tell your friends too, so we can help get all these cool dogs appreciated—as they should be. Check out last month’s Canine Superstars. They rock! |

Max's Mini-Reviews BOW OW FIRST AID KIT : This is the ultimate doggy care kit—and I am all about being cared for. The first aid kit contains everything a prepared human needs for cuts, bites, ears, scratches and much more. I feel more free to explore now that I know my humans have a first aid kit handy—just don't tell them. HEEBIE JEEBIES : Heebie Jeebies is no ordinary toy. I love its four squeakers, to me, the more squeakers the better! My humans like that the toy is stuffing free. I tend to get a little overzealous with my toys and can sometimes leave a trail of stuffing in my wake. But with no stuffing there is no messy clean up for my humans which means more playtime for me. |
