Issue 38: January 11
Dear Dr. Schelling,

My dog has been dragging his rear end across the floor. It is disgusting and I also notice this awful fishy odor. Can you help me?

-Scooting in Scottsdale

Dear Scooting,

Scooting is common in dogs that want to scratch an itch or irritation in the area under the tail. Though many things can cause scooting—tapeworms, fleas, allergies and matted fur to name a few—the most common culprit is anal sac disease which is often accompanied by a foul odor.
